Building “Big” Buzz for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado
Despite a strong brand identity and rich history, a general lack of community and media awareness had left Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado with a ten-year low in donations and more than 300 children waiting for mentors. BBBS hoped to gain local and national press coverage for its mentoring programs, and hired Xstatic Public Relations to generate media buzz and capture the interest of the general public. After extensive research and planning, Xstatic implemented a mix of media relations campaigns, spokespeople, public service announcements, special events and community relations to achieve every goal it set out to accomplish.
Quantifiable results were tracked as Xstatic:
- Generated 32 regional stories/mentions with a total ad equivalency of more than $25,000, in local media such as the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, KMGH-TV (ABC), KUSA-TV (NBC), KDVR-TV (FOX) and 850-AM (KOA).
- Placed five stories/mentions in leading business publications/newsletters such as the Denver Business Journal and the influential “Business For Breakfast” morning radio program on 1060-AM (KRCN).
- Placed one national broadcast news segment on Fox News Channel covering the Cars Helping Kids program, with an audience of more than 2,000,000 people and a total ad equivalency of more than $40,000.
- Recruited more than 300 new volunteers from local companies to participate in the Adopt-a-School program, more than half of them males.
- Measured a weekly increase in volunteer/donation inquiry calls of approximately 40 percent.
- Boosted donor revenue by five percent through a big boost in constituent communications.
The campaign success did not go unnoticed in the region and the public relations community — Xstatic was honored with a Gold Pick award, the Public Relations Society of America’s highest honor recognizing the year’s top campaigns.
