Rebuilding Together Metro Denver Leads 22 Local Projects for National Rebuilding Day THIS Saturday

~Hickenlooper Proclaims April 24 National Rebuilding Day in Denver

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, a nonprofit organization that improves the homes and lives of homeowners in need, will lead 22 home improvement projects around Denver on National Rebuilding Day THIS Saturday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers, city officials, sports figures and others will complete roofing, windows and doors, flooring, weatherization, painting, and safety and accessibility modifications for qualified seniors, families, people living with disabilities and veterans at no cost. Project sites are located throughout the metro area in Denver, Adams and Arapahoe counties. Mayor Hickenlooper has proclaimed April 24 National Rebuilding Day in Denver, asking those in the community to take an active role in supporting rebuilding projects to help homeowners in need.

WHAT: Rebuilding Together Metro Denver will tackle 22 projects in the Denver area as part of the local effort for National Rebuilding Day, the annual signature event of Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership by rehabilitating the homes of low-income homeowners.

WHEN: SATURDAY, APRIL 24; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WHERE: Rebuilding Together Metro Denver has chosen four unique local projects to spotlight, including:
•    440 Cherokee St., Denver, CO  80204 – Elderly couple living in the very first home they purchased more than 52 years ago. Sponsored by Heroes at Home, a partnership of Sears Holdings Corporation and Rebuilding Together.
•    2552 Dexter St., Denver, CO  80207 – Elderly Army veteran who, after being honorably discharged, has lived in her Denver home for 50 years. Sponsored by EnCana Corporation.
•    3440 W. 66th Ave. Denver, CO  80221 – Woman struggling with health concerns who simply wants to continue living in her home of 33 years with her pets. Sponsored by Wells Fargo.
•    601 Del Norte St., Denver, CO  80221 – Woman suffering from the loss of sight and hearing in need of basic home repairs to help improve her quality of life. Sponsored by 99.5 The Mountain.

DONATE: To support the material requirements of National Rebuilding Day and beyond, Rebuilding Together seeks donations of new or nearly new building supply items, including: carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, caulk, painting supplies, water heater blankets, grab bars, shower benches, tub surrounds, four-by-four treated lumber posts and treated lumber handrails. OTHER PROJECTS: This spring, Rebuilding Together Metro Denver is kicking off several other rebuilding projects in the metro area, including:
•  Choice Hotels Room to Rebuild Initiative – Throughout spring 2010, Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together will complete rebuilding projects in Colorado Springs, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Nashville to assist low-income homeowners and provide extensive rehabilitations to their homes. In the past year, the Room to Rebuild partnership has completed more than 20 significant housing projects. The Denver project is located at 5325 Titan Ct. in Denver and will commence on April 24.
•    Safeway Inc. Rebuilding Project – Safeway and The Safeway Foundation have launched a new partnership with Rebuilding Together to renovate 10 homes and nonprofit buildings across the country, including one in Denver, to help people with disabilities live safely and independently. The Denver project took place on April 10.
•    Sears Holdings Heroes at Home Renovations – Rebuilding Together kicks off its Heroes at Home rebuilding projects nationwide this spring including one in Denver on National Rebuilding Day (440 Cherokee St.). Heroes at Home is a partnership of Sears Holdings Corporation and Rebuilding Together, dedicated to improving the lives of the military and their families through extensive home rehabilitations.
