National Rebuilding Day Offers Help for Local Homeowners in Need
~Rebuilding Together Metro Denver Tackles 22 Home Improvement Projects on April 24
Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, a nonprofit organization that improves the homes and lives of homeowners in need, will lead 22 home improvement projects on National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Community volunteers, sports figures and local officials will join thousands of people across the country to give time, money and materials to support National Rebuilding Day.
National Rebuilding Day projects, such as roofing, windows and doors, flooring, weatherization, painting, and safety and accessibility modifications, are provided at no cost to qualified seniors, families, people living with disabilities and veterans. Project sites are located throughout the metro area, in Denver, Adams and Arapahoe counties.
“Each year, we help hundreds of low-income families remain warm, safe and dry in their homes,” said Laurie McCaw, chief executive officer of Rebuilding Together Metro Denver. “In addition to making much-needed repairs and revitalizing homes, National Rebuilding Day is about helping homeowners dramatically improve their safety and quality of life.”
Home Improvement With a Heart
On National Rebuilding Day, volunteer teams of 20 to 25 people gather at each home to work together and complete the projects. Many teams are led by corporate sponsors, including Choice Hotels, Heroes at Home (Sears), ServiceMagic and Wells Fargo, and include colleagues working together in a spirit of service.
The organization has chosen four unique projects of interest to spotlight – ranging from an elderly couple who has lived in the home for 52 years, to a woman struggling with health concerns who simply wants to continue living at home with her pets. The sites of these four projects are: 440 Cherokee St., 2552 Dexter St., 3440 W. 66th Ave., and 601 Del Norte St.
Rebuilding Together Seeks Donations, Sponsors
To support the material requirements of National Rebuilding Day and beyond, Rebuilding Together is seeking corporate sponsors and building supply donations. The organization is in need of new or nearly new items such as carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, caulk, painting supplies, water heater blankets, grab bars, shower benches, tub surrounds, four-by-four treated lumber posts and treated lumber handrails.
Anyone can donate materials by calling (720) 524-0840. Both individual donors and corporate sponsors are encouraged to donate materials, or visit www.rebuildingdenver.org to sponsor or donate online.
