PARKER, Colo. — Oct. 31, 2005 — The Parker Chamber of Commerce and the Parker Police Department have teamed up to educate the local business community about crime awareness and prevention practices. In the coming weeks, officers from the Parker Police Department will conduct seminars for local businesses and their employees on common workplace crimes and proactive ways to prevent them.
“One of the most important ways for a business to stay successful is to learn how to prevent crime and build a safe and secure workplace,” said Jane Johnson, membership coordinator for the Parker Chamber of Commerce. “As workplace crime continues to increase, local business people will have the opportunity to learn simple prevention techniques from experts at the Parker Police Department that they can implement immediately.”
The seminars will cover a variety of topics, including: general crime prevention, robbery, burglary, check fraud, shoplifting and how to leverage customer service as a prevention tool. Officers will also encourage business people to take a proactive approach through environmental design – using proper landscaping and workplace layout to prevent crimes.
“The Parker Police are partnering with the Chamber of Commerce to provide beneficial crime prevention information to Parker businesses,” said Parker Police Chief Tom Cornelius. “The saying, ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’, is absolutely true. The police would much rather work with businesses to harden the target against criminals than have to investigate a crime after it happens. Positive results come from prevention efforts and we hope businesses can find the time to participate.”
The Parker Police Department will provide safety information relevant to businesses of every size and industry. Presentations are free of charge to Parker-area businesses. To schedule a crime prevention and awareness seminar for your business or for a group of businesses in your area, please contact Kam Breitenbach with the Parker Police Department at 303-805-3389 or kbreitenbach@ci.parker.co.us.
