Parker Chamber’s Old West Gambling Night an Overwhelming Success

~The Wildlife Experience Hosts More Than 230 Chamber Members for South-of-the-Border Soiree

PARKER, Colo. — March 23, 2005 — The music has stopped, the games are over, the prizes have all been won and the dust has finally settled. The Parker Chamber of Commerce presented its annual Old West Gambling Night on Saturday, March 19, attracting more than 230 people to the Wildlife Experience in Parker. This year’s event, which took on a south-of-the-border theme, featured Mexican-style cuisine, a mariachi band, dancing, Vegas-style gaming, a silent auction and a grand-prize raffle.

Children of Prisoners to Get Big Brothers, Big Sisters

~Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado Seeks Youth and Volunteers for New Mentoring Program

DENVER, March 16, 2005 – An estimated 15,500 children in Colorado have a parent in prison, according to recent statistics. And, nationwide indicators state that youth with an incarcerated parent are 70 percent more likely to become incarcerated themselves. In response to these and other startling figures related to children of prisoners, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Colorado has introduced the REACH (Relationships Expanding A Child’s Horizons) Mentoring program for children who have a parent or guardian in a state or federal prison system. As part of REACH Mentoring, the organization is working to establish more than 300 youth-mentor matches in the Denver/Boulder metro area by July 31.
